Job Description
  • We are seeking a PA with surgical or radiology experience to work closely with our attending Interventional Radiologists, performing pre-op patient evaluations and consultations, intra-op and post-op patient care, provide patient education and follow-up. Will assist with and perform IR procedures and act as a resource for case management.
  • Effective communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Duties

  • Two or four year degree in nursing
  • Current NYS license
  • CPR/AED certification preferred

Special Skills

  • Obtains health histories and performs physical examinations, diagnoses problems, formulates treatment plans and follow-up, reviews and interprets diagnostic tests. Initiates medical orders, consulting with physician as necessary.Writes prescriptions as needed in accordance with physician supervisor and scope of practice.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures at 1 or more hospitals based on hospital-granted privileges. Participates in minimally invasive image-guided procedures with minimal supervision, including a venous access service (placement of PICC lines, tunneled and non-tunneled central lines), CT biopsy and drainage, myelograms, paracenteses, thoracentesis, and others.Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the IR clinic, follows up with in- and outpatients post-operatively.
  • Monitors patients and provides continuity of care between visits. Instructs patients and families regarding medications and treatment, provides patient education, recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs. Provides oral and written communication with referring physicians, pharmacists, and home health care agencies, etc. as appropriate, and arranges follow-up visits and procedures.
  • Provides on-going education about current radiologic trends in equipment, materials and treatment devices to residents and medical staff as requested. Participates in orienting new residents to the IR service and procedures.Attends conferences and meetings as required. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Physicians Assistant program.
  • CPR/AED certification preferred
  • NYS license and certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistant (NCCPA).
  • 3-5 years surgical or IR/vascular experience, previous radiology experience preferred.
  • Eligible to obtain prescriptive writing authority or completion of such authority within 3 months of employment.
  • Strong clinical abilities, knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Phlebotomy skills required.
  • Effective communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
